In order to control accidents on Hyderabad city roads both GHMC and Traffic department officials are jointly making few plans. Based on Supreme Court guidelines regarding safety measures on roads, the traffic officials are planning to put restrictions on speed limits of vehicles. They are also planning to set up sign boards and indicators regarding the speed limits on Hyderabad roads. Traffic police officials are going to use CC cameras, patrolling vehicles and special police teams to catch the motorists who are violating the Speed limit rules and Traffic rules.
Work has been started
Traffic commissioner Dr V. Ravinder said that the government has already passed orders few days ago regarding the restrictions on speed limits on Hyderabad roads. He said that they are planning to meet GHMC officials within 2 to 3 days and make decisions regarding this matter. He also said that they have already started the work related to this and after analysing in detail about the areas and the road conditions, they will release the final statement.
Now the restrictions are only on upper tank bond
We can now see restrictions on speed limits only on upper tank bond region. In the past voluntary organisations complained about the speed of vehicles and increase in accidents due to the speed between Ambedkar statue and Marriott Hotel in the Lokayuktha. Responding to the issue Lokayuktha passed orders regarding the speed limits i.e. 30 Km per hour on the upper tank bond.
On outer ring road the speed limit is set for 100 Km per hour and the motorists violating these limitations are subject to penalties.
Special teams to impose penalties
Traffic officials are about to set 1500 indicators, sign boards and warning boards in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police Commissionerate. The tender processes regarding this are also completed. These sign boards and warning boards will be placed on main centres and connecting roads. For the convenience of pedestrians and them to cross the roads radium boards will be used, so that they are visible to pedestrians from distance. Special teams are appointed to impose penalties on those who violate the rules.
- The motorists should follow speed limits set based on the factors like condition of roads, traffic and main busy areas.
- The speed limit on 4 lane highway will be set up to 40-60 Km per hour.
- On areas like Punjagutta, Secunderabad, Koti, Abids, Nampally, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Madhapur, the speed limits will be set based on the traffic.
- Officials are planning to set speed restrictions and speed limit as 30 Km per hour near the areas like hospitals, schools and other academic areas.
